Prescriptive Program

The Prescriptive Program offers businesses set financial incentives for the implementation of energy-efficient improvements and technologies that reduce energy consumption. The program is a simple and easy-to-use way to receive funding for common energy efficiency projects.

All business (non-residential) customers in AEP Ohio's service territory in the state of Ohio are eligible to apply, and can choose from a predefined incentive menu based on a fixed-cost per unit installed in these categories:

  • Heating and Cooling (HVAC)
  • Lighting
  • Motors and Drives
  • Refrigeration

A complete list of the eligible equipment and incentive amounts can be found in the program application. If your project equipment is not included in the Prescriptive Program, it may qualify for the Custom Program.

How the program works

  1. Before purchasing equipment or committing to a project, please complete the following documents:

    • Application Form (Application is for Prescriptive and Custom Programs)
    • Supporting documentation as described in the application form
  2. AEP Ohio reviews the application and if approved, funding is reserved.
  3. Complete your project installation by the date specified on the approved proposal. Within 60 calendar days of the installation completion date, you'll complete the final application form and provide required supporting documentation to AEP Ohio.
  4. AEP Ohio reviews the final application and releases funds to you within 30 days.

Incentive funding is limited

  • The limit for each project is $300,000.
  • The limit for each business entity (corporation, LLC, partnership, etc) is based on their tariff, as indicated below:
    • Tariff Limit per Business Entity
    General Service Tariffs 1, 2, & 3 $600,000 per year
    Any Other Tariff $600,000 overall for years 2009-2011
  • A sliding scale incentive reduction will be incorporated when the calculated incentive exceeds $160,000 per project.
