Seventy-five percent of the electricity consumed by home electronics occurs while they are powered off.
You can save approximately 5 to 10 percent of your overall home's electricity use by unplugging or using a power strip to turn off electronics.

- Cell phone chargers
- Phone bases
- Televisions
- Computers
- Gaming systems
- Any electronic device with a clock or remote control

- Unplug or turn off your electronics.
- Use a power strip.
- If turning off all your electronics is impractical, use a smart surge protector power strip which automatically cuts power to your electronics when not in use.
- Purchase ENERGY STAR electronics, which save energy in both active and standby modes.
- If possible, choose electronics without a built-in clock or timer. Running one display per day is equivalent to running a compact florescent light bulb continuously for 10 hours.
- Read the manual. Your electronics may already incorporate some power management options.
